BUYING AND SELLING HORSES

Purchasing

Where it all starts, you just got to have that horse. Often, the excitement of getting that horse overshadows all else, obscuring details such as does that horse really measure up to the sales pitch? What does "dead broke" or "bombproof" really mean? Are there any hidden (latent) physical or mental defects? Are the papers in order? Has the horse been doped? What about foaling rights? Buying with a partner, or buying into a partnership? If everything works out great - but, how many horror stories have we all heard about deals gone bad?

Buyer or seller, we can help you to ask the right questions, and be sure of what the deal really is, before you commit, and we can structure the deal to include protection in case things do not turn out as advertised.

Lease/Rental

You want to use someone else's horse, or you want someone else to use your horse.  Not an uncommon arrangement, and done correctly, can be a great deal for both the horse owner and the lessee. The most common issue tends to be who is responsible for what, particularly when it comes to bills such as veterinarian and farrier. We have dealt with many such situations, finding that the vast majority of disputes could have been resolved with a properly drafted, comprehensive agreement.

Common Issues We Deal With:

  • Negotiating terms

  • Contracts

  • Vetting partners

  • Pre-lease inspections

  • Lessor/Lessee protections
